I have decided that after spending the last 3 months of my life searching for jobs, that I don’t like the employment websites out there. And I think that they need to be changed up, redesigned to be more effective. Re programmed if you will
The 5 things I would like to change are:
1) Separate staffing agency‘s from the regular job postings, there is no guarantee with staffing agency and sometimes there are no openings but instead they are just looking to fill their “resume” for their company in order to be more competitive with clients.
a) With the staffing area I would separate them based on temp for hire to temp part-time. A lot of time temp agencies are used to fill people’s vacation or leave time, or until they can hire someone more permanent. But I believe job seeks should know the difference and be able to apply for that difference instead of having to review each job posting
2) When it comes to the actual jobs postings that are directly from the employer, I would have a map on the add that would give more of an idea of where the job is located. I am really tired of people stating North Phoenix and it be on Camelback Rd and another stating North phoenix and be in Scottsdale, got news for you they are not both North phoenix and are around 45 min away from each other. I understand that places want to be a little discrete on who they are and where they are located, so I would want to create a program that can help the employer be discrete but at the same time give a more accurate location. In short , the employer puts out in an address, and the site would give a zone of a mile in each direction. So the job seeker has more of an idea for travel and transportation.
3) salary would be required to enter ( if not just a range or left blank) , Tired of putting out resumes to get a call back only to be advised later that they are paying like $10.00 an hour (or minimum wage). Yeah I think that a job seeker should know more about the pay range prior to putting the resume in (as not to waste anyone’s time). The reality for any job seeker, we need to be able to plan out our expenses and we should show disappointment on our face during the interview when that part is mentioned.
4) Employers posting should be required to put down if they are offering health benefits, as again not to waste time, some of us need that and can’t afford to get it on our own.
5) I would create a better time limit for the job posting, for example , job postings shouldn’t be out there for like 3 months, instead, they should be closed down like after receiving a certain number of applications(for an example : after 10 application received the post is removed) . Once these are reviewed by the employer , they can than decided if they need more and could submit the job posting if they feel they need more applicants . I have heard from several employers that they received too many apps to go through them all. this can than hopefully save both the employer and job applicant time.
a) With that being said, there should be an option that the employer / job poster has in which they can select to send an email to those that weren’t selected for an interview. That way the job seeker knows where they stand instead of waiting. (I hate waiting for a callback and would like to know if I am not up for consideration)
Just saying …. These things would so help out both parties and make the process a little easier. Let’s face it the job process sucks for everyone involved and something should be done to make it a little easier. But it is just my opinion.
